My brother and I haven't spoken in two years over a parking spot
It sounds insane to say out loud. Two years of silence over a parking spot. But it was never really about the parking spot. When our mom got sick, I moved back home to help. My brother stayed three states away and sent money instead, which is its own kind of help, I guess. But I was the one doing the driving, the appointments, the bad nights. When mom passed, the one thing in writing was that I'd get her car, because I was the one who needed it for all of that. My brother showed up the week after the funeral and parked in her spot at the building like it was already his. I asked him to move it. He said something about how I'd taken everything already. And that was it. Two years. I keep thinking I should call him. Then I remember the look on his face and I don't.
